Info Sheet

These Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL) based programs are the result of a collaborative approach by community, education and business to create alternative and engaging education programs for young people who are disengaged from mainstream schooling.  The programs are flexible, varied and can cater to individual needs where appropriate.

What is VCAL?

Through community partnerships the Inner Eastern LLEN plans to facilitate the following VCAL programs to engage young people in 2006.

IELLEN/SKYS VCAL [Foundation]

A flexible, multimedia-oriented course for those who have not experienced success in mainstream secondary education.  Includes a Cert. I in Media and Cert. I Workplace Education.  Participants receive a high level of support.

Transition VCAL [Intermediate]

Based at Prahran TAFE, this new program will provide a pathway for Foundation students and those needing an alternative to mainstream secondary education.  An on-site Multimedia VET will be available.

VCAL at Swinburne TAFE, Hawthorn

[Intermediate& Senior]

These VCAL programs will offer VET in Broadcasting & Hospitality.  Senior VCAL students with an established VET or School Based Apprenticeship may still join the TAFE VCAL program and continue in their chosen area of VET, only if places are available.

Young Mums VCAL

This innovative program allows pregnant young women and new mothers the opportunity to build their parenting and literacy skills with unique support, access to childcare, and the possibility of some flexible delivery.
