On Track

On Track, a new State Government initiative helping young people make the transition from school to further education, training and work. Young people who left school in years 10 to 12 in 2002 have been contacted to participate in a survey. Those who advised they were not studying, training or in full time employment were put in contact with local services for advice to help them get their career plans back on track

Results of the survey:

On Track destination data for students enrolled in year 12 in the previous year, complements information on student performances in VCE. This is the first time such comprehensive information about post school destinations has been collected and published anywhere in Australia.

This site provides access to the 2002 survey data with explanatory notes. It also supplies frequently asked questions for students who have been invited to participate in On Track.

Become a mentor

The Mentor Program in Schools aims to match VCAL students in the IE LLEN area with a volunteer mentor. The pairs will meet at the school for one hour once a week. The purpose of the meeting is to assist the young person in gaining skills; knowledge and experience that will better equip them for future pathways and employment.

If you have students who are currently at risk of leaving school early or who have recently left you might want to consider recommending them for one of the following programs which IELLEN have put in place for Term 4, 2003

IELLEN is sponsoring the following Campus Programs for disengaging students

1. Tafe Tasters
Tafe Tasters will enable students to gain a sample from selection of TAFE certificate courses including: multi media, fashion and automotive. The taster course helps students to develop a greater awareness about possibilities of further study in specific industries.

2. IT/Media & Literacy
The Media Literacy course engages the student in English & Information Technology in an adult learning environment. Students work on projects which incorporate both subjects producing zines, and websites while improving their written skills and upgrading their IT skills.

3. Personal Development - Job search skills
The program is student-centred, focusing on the skills required to make decisions regarding further study and employment options.
The course includes:

Early Exit Assist

A new initiative stemming from the recent On Track project is the Early Exit assist program which will support exiting students and those students who are considered to be close to exiting from schools. The students will be asked by the relevant school coordinator if they would like additional support once they leave school, if they request help then the coordinator arranges for the student to complete a permission form which will be faxed to the IELLEN who will contact the student to set up a convenient time to meet and discuss options.
